In response to a question about the brevity of life, Gurudev shared the following:

Move on. See the entire past as a dream. This afternoon you meditated and had dinner. In the morning, you woke up and did asanas. Isn't this moment like a dream?

Time passes quickly

Just take your mind to your arrival here. You went to your room to check-in. Isn't traveling to this place like a dream? Aren't all past days like a dream?

And next, tomorrow will be like a dream. The day after, you’ll go home. Years will pass, another twenty years! Isn't it like a dream?

You'll be horizontal, under the ground. Or you'll become ashes. You should say, “Just cremate me and throw my ashes in the ocean!”

The whole future and past are like a dream. Wake up and see! Life is gone, momentarily! In such a short period, you cry, blame, and abuse. My God, where’s the time

I can’t find enough time to express our love. I wonder how people find time to hate each other.

A story of a young man

A youth came to a master and said, “Tell me one thing. Don’t you ever get bad thoughts about sex or about strangling somebody? I get them so often. If you do, tell me.”

The master said, “Okay, but first I'll look at your hand.” He grabbed it, and said, “Wow! My dear, I can’t hide this from you. You’ll die next Sunday. You've one week to live.“

The youth said, “Really?” and started running.

So the master shouted, “Wait for the answer to your question!”

The youth said, “I’m no longer interested,” ran home, called his family, and told everybody, “I’m dying this Sunday.” He settled everything. His family was sobbing and crying.

On Sunday, the youth lied down on the floor and said, “Any moment I will die.”

The master knocked on the door. The youth said, “Good master, you’ve come?"

The master said, "I have the answer, so tell me about this week. Did you get thoughts about sex or strangling anybody?”

He said, “No, I apologized to all those people with whom I was angry. My mind has become so free.”

At any moment, death can knock on your door. The mind is like a cap on the life force. When it dies, life begins, and that’s what life is all about. That’s enlightenment. None of the things you think or do should overshadow the life force that you are.
