As a meditator, we want our meditations to feel good. But what is the impact of a good meditation? What does deep meditation feel like? And how do you experience deeper meditations? Let’s find out.

If you have meditated, you should feel light like a flower, where your inside feels soft, beautiful, and comfortable. Deep meditation gives you energy and long-lasting bliss. It carries you higher and higher until your presence radiates love.

On the other hand, if you feel uptight, angry and upset inside then meditation has not happened. Now, if you sit and think, ‘I have to feel very soft and gentle. This has to happen,’ it is not going to happen because the anxiety itself will be a block for that to happen. You cannot expect things to happen, you simply have to be.

In addition to meditation tips for beginners, here are a few more tips that can help you just be and experience deep meditations effortlessly.

1. Follow 3 Golden Principles of Meditation

Three golden principles are very useful in meditation. When you go to shower, you don’t go with your coat on, right? You remove the coat and your shoes. In the same way, when you meditate, keep aside all your wants and say, ‘I want nothing.’ Keep aside all your identities and labels and say, ‘I am nothing.’ Meditation is not doing anything. The final golden principle is saying, ‘I do nothing.’

2. Watch What You Eat

It is said, jaisa ann waisa mann. Food influences your mind, thoughts, and behaviour. Processed food, heavy and excessively spicy food, and sugary items cause a lot of thoughts and restlessness in the mind which prove to be an obstacle to deep meditations. Similarly, be aware of your thoughts while eating. Food absorbs thought. When you think negatively while eating, your food absorbs it – causing a cycle of negativity. When you bless your food, it has a positive impact on your mind.

3. Practice Yoga

Yoga relieves you from stress and restlessness. It is stress that causes weakness, anger, jealousy, and all the negative emotions. Yoga makes your emotions softer and more peaceful. When that happens, going deeper into meditation becomes easier.

4. Do Seva

As human beings, we have to help each other and that is what seva is. Seva means – ‘Sa’ means ‘him’ which refers to God and ‘Eva’ means ‘like him’ – Doing things like him. God does so many things for you but does not expect anything in return from you. When you bring a smile to someone’s face, they send good vibrations and blessings. Seva brings merit and merit allows you to go deeper into meditation.

5. Drop Your Complaints

When you retire into meditation, say that everything is perfect – only then you can go inwards. Usually, when you close your eyes and go inward, you keep thinking – this is not okay and that is not okay and find fault in everything. This way you cannot meditate. When there is a chance to do something, you may succumb to thinking that everything is fine the way it is. A little shift in attitude can help. When you are acting, see what it is that you can do. When you have to meditate or rest then say – everything is fine. This attitude will help you go deep in meditation.

6. Drop Cravings and Aversions

If the mind is filled with cravings (strong likes) and aversions (strong dislikes), rest is not possible. And if there is no rest, the goal of spiritual practices cannot be achieved. That is why we need to be free from the cravings and aversions in our minds.

So, how do we do that? ‘I don’t need anything from anyone’, is what we need to keep in our mind. When we don’t need anything from anyone, we will not have cravings towards anybody. When there is no craving for anybody, there will be no aversion to anybody.

We are averse to those whom we think to be bad. But there is no bad person in the world. If people do something bad, it is because of their ignorance or lack of awareness, or because their mind has been hurt. So, don’t have negative opinions about anybody. If others have a negative opinion about you, it is their problem, not yours. From your side, do not consider anyone as bad. By doing this, your mind will be clear and pleasant and your intellect will be sharp.

7. Only One

There is only one consciousness that is present everywhere in all of creation. This is why this entire existence is alive and full of awareness. The same consciousness cares for you as your mother and father, your children, and so on. The same consciousness is also present in your enemy. Knowing this, you should relax and rest in deep meditation from time to time. But do not confuse this in practical and worldly matters. In the practical world, you will see differences in terms of the qualities of people, and you will have to act intelligently as per the situation. But the moment you sit for meditation, then you should drop the differences. This is called sitting with Abheda-buddhi – a mature intellect that sees the essential unity and oneness in all of Creation. Having Abheda-buddhi brings enormous strength and steadiness to the mind, intellect and memory.

8. Silent Power

Sound to silence is the journey of spirituality. In silence, we get back our energy, which is lost in the outer world. Being so busy in daily life, we do not see the central core of who we are. We are more than our five senses and our minds. Silence brings you back home. It gives you the much-needed energy to realize who you are – to realize that there is bliss, beauty, and joy within you. We all have this enormous wealth of silence in our hearts, but somehow we have forgotten how to tap into it. This is where a silence program, also known as the Advanced Meditation Program can help, resulting in deep meditations.

9. Learn from a Tradition

From thousands of years, many sages down the line have preserved the art of meditation and it is a gift to humanity. In the middle ages, people thought it should only be given to a very qualified student and a sincere seeker. However, meditation naturally makes one sincere. It brings a change in the quality of life. Fortunately, learning from a tradition is more accessible to us in this age. You can start your journey by taking a personal mantra for meditation in the Sahaj Samadhi Dhyana Yoga program.
