Art of Living Volunteers Collect and Distribute 500 Tons of Relief Material in Flood Ravaged Chennai

Chennai, December 7, 2015: As Chennai was going through one of the worst water nightmares to hit the city, The Art of Living volunteers stepped in yet again and have successfully distributed relief material weighing over 500 tonnes to the rain battered Chennai so far.

The truckload of relief material which was collected from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Bangalore contained ​​basic necessities like​ ​bread, biscuits, medicines and clothes (bed sheets, towels, mats, dhotis, and saris). The distributed relief material also included w​ater bottles, sanitary napkins, and energy essentials like power banks, candles, torch lights and batteries apart from cooked food. ​

As of now, the relief efforts have been made in Kotturpuram, West Saidapet, T. Nagar, West Mambalam, Thousand Lights, Manali, Ramapuram, Velachery, Injambakkam, Kovilampakkam, Nanmangalam, Nandambakkam, Jafferkhanpet, Nesapakkam, Sidco Nagar, ICF colonies, Avadi, Kilpauk, Greenways MRTS station and Porur.

The next phase of relief work will also cover Mudichur, Tambaram, Perungaluthur, Perumbakkam, Pallikaranai and other distressed areas.

Volunteers along with local ward officials and ​c​ouncillors have identified distress zones across the city and distribution has been coordinated by The Art of Living volunteers.  

Shri Krishnachander, President of T​he Art of Living in Tamil Nadu says, “We are extending our efforts to channelize all resources for the next two weeks to bring relief to the thousands of people affected by the rains in Chennai”.

All the relief materials have been centrally located in the following nine collection centres including Chindadripet, Kilpauk, Tambaram. Tiruvanmiyur, ICF, Ramapuram, Sholinganallur, Velachery and Teynampet.
