The popular festival of Ganesha Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is just a few days away and Sri Lankans are all geared - up to welcome its largest Ganesha icon. Commissioned by the Art of Living Foundation charity in Sri Lanka the mega figurine is taking its final shape at Batticaloa in Eastern Sri Lanka. Designed to bring people together in a spirit of harmony and celebration, the icon is all set to capture the mood and imagination of this island-nation like never before.
The idea and theme of the 15 feet high Ganesha icon is to primarily inspire youth, students and children to “Have a big, huge vision and goal in life. And work 100% , whatever the obstacles ”. This project is also a part of The Art of Living Foundation`s workshop titled ` Art for Children` that aims to inspire young painters, artists and creative people to do something big, new and different.
Those who have had a preview of the design consider this a tremendous accomplishment at the magical hands of just a single designer and artisan Mr. Manimaran from the upcountry Hatton town. The grand design, complete with cheerful colors and royal garments was begun only three weeks ago!
The designer says “I was inspired by His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar`s vision to celebrate life and bring joy in others` lives, come what may ”. Working away joyfully at his studio in the Art of Living`s - Village of Hope campus, the designer puts in just eight hours every day while also teaching the art and craft to all the under -privileged children who are being supported by the Art of Living Foundation charity.
September 19th - it’s going to be a 15 feet high celebration ! To encourage people to move ahead, with faith and confidence to overcome the obstacles in life. Well, that’s what our dear Lord Ganesha and Guru is for !!
