Karnataka Flood Relief Efforts (Sept. 2009)

On 5th October 2009, the Indian state of Karnataka suffered from severe flooding. The heavy rains left over 200 people dead and 300,000 people homeless in the state. According to official sources, over 26,000 houses have collapsed in North Karnataka. Most of the eleven districts in the region had all their rivers flowing above the danger mark. Following the floods, material aid was delivered and the affected communities were also helped through the Youth Leadership Training Program and other workshops.

Since the floods, several training programmes have become established in many slum areas including:YLTP (Youth Leadership Training Program), Talent Club, KYC (Know Your Child), Vedic Mathematics, Spoken English, Communication Skills and Leadership Skills.The project will help create a vibrant and empowered Karnataka through the reawakening of human values. This project’s mission is to improve the lives of people in slums and rural areas.
