“We have always used the water of holy rivers like Ganga and Yamuna to purify ourselves. But today, we have reached a point when we have to purify their waters. So we are waging a war against pollution in Yamuna” – Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar launched this seven-month long campaign with the cleaning of all the main Ghats of Yamuna during the first one week. The objective of the campaign is to spread awareness about the cleaning of the river into which more than half of 3.6 billion tonnes of sewage produced in Delhi flows untreated.
Yamuna is immensely essential not only due to economic and ecological reasons but also because it fulfills 60 percent water needs of the Delhi region. Over the years Yamuna has also become the most endangered waterways in India.
Hundreds of NGO’s, organizations and corporate are part of the initiative.
Many dignitaries, politicians, businessmen and corporate heads were also a part of the event.
“It’s high time we all realize how important it is for us to save this river from dying completely. Words alone don’t help and neither does empty rhetoric”
