Gurudev inaugurates the educator's meet in Delhi on November 28.
800 principals gather to listen to the Spiritual Guru
Delhi, November 28, 2011: Grooming the young minds is not an easy task – but it was made simple for 800 principals by The Art of Living Founder, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the capital on Monday. The seminar titled ‘Educators Meet’ saw a huge turn-out of principals and Managing Committee members of Public and Government Schools coming together to listen to the spiritual master.
Throwing light on the role of a teacher, Gurudev said, “Nowadays there is a personal touch that is missing from teachers towards students. Every teacher needs to act like a counselor towards each student. This sense of belongingness is essential to build every student’s personality as this can take away the pressure from them. Creativity can only come from a relaxed mind.”
The initiative is an ongoing program to create awareness and bring together committed educators to discuss the importance of value education and holistic development in a world of accelerating economic and social change. Interacting with them, Gurudev addressed various issues in the education system including successful models that derive inspiration from traditional values and incorporating these examples in mainstream education.
Vinita Mehra, Vice Principal, DPS, said, “I have got a broader understanding of role of an educator and that ‘repetition’ is the key in inculcating values among children.”
Gurudev also compared a teacher with a gardener having a responsibility of nurturing the young minds and urged the teachers to be proud of their profession. Present in the audience were principals and representatives from numerous public and government schools, including Delhi Public School (DPS), Sanskriti, Vasant Valley, DAV schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Amity, Sri Sri Seva Mandir, Govt. Boys Senior Sec. School and Akshay Pratishtan among others.
Mrs. Shabda Birfani Bedi, leading teacher, education and development, Azim Premji Institution of assessment and accreditation, shared, "I like the ease with which Gurudev brought in the fact that an educator has to give 100 percent to bring out a complete child.”
