PATNA: Renowned spiritual leader and the founder of the Art of Living Poojya Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has called upon the political leaders to restore the respect that the political class once enjoyed. Addressing the members Bihar Legislative Assembly and Council on Friday, Gurudev recalled,
“There was a time when politicians enjoyed as much respect as sadhus and sants. But today people look down upon politicians. The political class needs to work for reversing this.”
He highlighted the need for the legislators to meditate and do some spiritual practices everyday to tackle the high level stress they go through.
“A few minutes of pranayama and meditation every day will restore the harmony of body and mind,” he said.
Gurudev demonstrated some simple but effective stress busting techniques. He showed how a two-minute eyebrow massage could soothe a burning eye and how a short circular massage below the cheekbone could bring down high blood pressure.
Emphasising the futility of hate and conflict, Gurudev recalled how he had invited the warring Maoists and Ranvir Sena activists from central Bihar to his programme in Rishikesh about four years ago.
“On arrival they were literally at each other’s throat. After attending the Art of Living for three days, they swore to burry the hatchet and dedicate themselves to serving others,” said.
He also revealed the government has requested him to help end Naxalism in Jehanabad.
