Drop this ‘every moment’. Some things you should take for granted. For example, now you are in Bangalore. If you say, "Gurudev, I want to remember every moment that I am in Bangalore", I would say, "What is the need? You don’t need to remember, ‘Oh, I am in Bangalore, I am in Bangalore’. There is no need". When you get into the bath tub you feel the warmth of the water for a minute or so. But then you stop feeling that. Experience comes only in contrast. When you are in it then the experience fades away. Don’t hanker for any experience, just be normal. Do you see what I am saying?
You know your name, you don’t go on saying, "I want to remember my name", all the time. Where is the need? If you try to remember your name all the time, you’ll be called cuckoo, a gone case! There is no need. Similarly, Divinity is everywhere, in everything, you know it, that’s it.
You know, the Upanishads on one level is just a story. On another level it has a very deep meaning. Gau doesn’t just means cow. Gau in Sanskrit means that which moves. Cows of course move, but it is knowledge that moves you to your goal, that nurtures you, and which is also called Gau.
In those days, they used to use cows for transportation. The bullock carts nurture you, and the cow gives you milk and nurtures you, and so cow is also called Gau and knowledge is also called Gau. Our mind is like a forest, it has so many thoughts, so many things. But when knowledge comes in there, then a transformation happens. So the Guru said, "You take this knowledge and go into the forest". That means, sit and contemplate and remove the cobwebs from your head. It is only wisdom that can remove the doubts, the cobwebs and the uncertainties.
Like this, the story has multiple layers of meanings, this is one such -- "I have given you these many cows (this much knowledge), take it into the forest (of your mind and contemplate and multiply your wisdom)".
Hearing is one thing, but when it becomes your experience, that same wisdom is multiplied, it has become solid. In The Art of Living you hear, 'Accept people and situations as they are', or 'The present moment is inevitable', but then in life when you are in a situations then this knowledge arrives and it helps you to assimilate.
Well, a teacher keeps a smile and has patience and perseverance. Smile not only when compliments are given, but when you are criticized then also have the ability to keep a smile. Unjust criticism should also be taken with a smile. Then you are a good teacher!
Gothra is simply like a blood group. You know the word group has come from Gothra. Gothra means a particular group, a particular knowledge, a particular type of body, mind, consciousness.
Once there was a very good Nadi doctor (doctor that performs an Ancient technique of diagnosis through the pulse), and he checked one person’s pulse and he said, "You are doing The Art of Living". The person said, "How do you know?" The doctor said, "All Art of living people have a particular type of pulse".
Similarly, if you walk anywhere and you find a big smile on someone’s face, then you feel he must be doing something - meditation, Kriya or something. People who do Sudarshan Kriya or meditation or something like that, you can right away identify because what you do reflects in your DNA. People who are engaged in criminal activities, their vibrations will tell you they are different, they are not normal. In the same tone I can say, people who cheat others they have certain vibes, you can feel that. They are over ambitious, ready to tell lies. You can identify.
Death is not just a happening once in awhile. Every moment the past is dead, and the present is what life is all about. When you are in the present moment, that is dharma. Death relieves you of your past and brings you to the present moment.
Now just drop this ‘I can’t’. If you want to, then have the intention that 'I want to and I can', then it will start happening naturally. Don’t underestimate your intention. If you put this intention, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I can’t’, then you are giving power to that ‘I can’t’.
It’s ok, they can do it. This is called the hard news. Everything is nice and beautiful is not hard news.
The World Culture Festival was an opportunity to give a message of peace. People who boycott such programs are not for peace, they are not for harmony. They want conflicts and they thrive on conflicts. That is what the message they give. It may not be their intention but they give a message to the world, "We love conflict and not peace, we love crime and not celebration".
Distraction. They are so jealous of mediators because they couldn't meditate in their past life! They are the fallen yogis. They are so jealous that you have became a good yogi.
