Day-long celebration of the “Night of Shiva”

Afghanistan
27th February 2014

The Art of Living International Centre at Bangalore is all set to become the pulsating centre of Shivaratri festivities, with over 1 lakh people, including around 1000 participants from around 40 nations expected to gather in a confluence of colourful, traditional garb and music. Several dignitaries from different walks of life will also be taking part.

This year’s festival will be marked by a Rudrabhishekham and Satsang in the presence of the Art of Living Founder, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The festivities begin with Maha Rudrabhishekam at 6 p.m. on 27th February, 2014 , followed by Maha Satsang. On 28th February, there will be Maha Rudrahomam at about6 a.m.

Expanding on the significance of this much-revered, pan-India festival Gurudev says, “Three types of peace are needed: material peace, peace in the environment, body and mind and peace in the soul. Shivaratri  brings solace to all the layers of consciousness.”

The “Om Namah Shivaya” chanting is done to harmonize the five elements in the environment.  These traditional rituals are offered to bring positive energy within the individual and in the environment.
