Arresting Stress in Tanzania

“I have never before experienced such a process in my life. I had very relaxing and amazing experiences. There is no tiredness, there is more peace and I’m able to understand the purpose of life more clearly,” shared Rashid, a young policeman from Tanzania. The Art of Living was invited to introduce its stress-elimination programs to the police personnel and Rashid was one of the 250 participants in February 2013.

Based on Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful breathing technique, designed by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the program boosts immunity, controls lifestyle-related health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

“The Sudarshan Kriya also helps attain calm and peaceful state of mind. Overall, the course helps improve levels of acceptance and the process of decision-making, apart from bringing stressed minds back to a natural and friendly state,” explains Deepak Lanka, international faculty of the foundation.

Explaining the The role of enforcing law and order can be stressful. The course is designed to help the police force combat their stress levels with the same ferocity as they tackle law-breakers.

“The project envisions training more constables and officers,” says Rama Subramaniam, chairman, The Art of Living Foundation in Tanzania. “The Art of Living course has been taught to law enforcement personnel around the world. Research has also been conducted on their reported benefits. The Art of Living is also successfully engaged in the rehabilitation of prisoners.”
