Straight Talk With Gurudev - A Transcript

Wed, 03/29/2017 Los Angeles, United States

Q: Do you have any message for the Vedic new year?

Know that you are ever new. We have such great talents. One can never underestimate the skills of people even if they are in rural areas or are uneducated. Human skills and talents are many folds!
In Hindi, there is a saying, “You never know what germ is hiding in which place”. Like that - skills need to be encouraged and youth today are participating in a big way in skilled development.

Survival should not be the only reason for one’s existence. Everything one does, is only to survive. We must take some risks, develop skills, progress and celebrate life.

Q: Can virtual events like this take the place of ‘Guru Sanidhya’, considered vital for mutual progress?

Yes, presence is always felt in the mind. In thought, you can feel the presence. Absolutely.

Q: Gurudev, how can we become like you?

Just stay connected. Connected with yourself and with the universe in spirit, and with me of course.

Q: Gurudev, why do some pattern keep repeating even for those who are meditating and listening to knowledge for many years?

If some patterns are repeating, you need more meditation and knowledge. Time always takes care of such situations. As time passes, you will find the intensity of those patterns wane away. And your determination to come out of those patterns will also help.

Never underestimate the power of your thought, the power of your determination. You don’t have to feel helpless – what do I do, my patterns are eating me up? Step by Step you can come out of your patterns.

Q: Why are the rivers revered so much in India?

Well, in all ancient cultures around the world rivers, mountains and trees were all revered. There were considered sacred.

Not just rivers, even trees are very holy. Like Peepal tree (or banyan tree) which gives oxygen all the time, is considered very holy. Though it doesn’t give any fruit or vegetable for consumption, it is considered very holy. People in the ancient days knew it gives us more oxygen. It helps to clean up the environment. So, rivers, trees, mountains are considered very sacred.

In the ancient tradition, before one put their foot on the ground, they would honor the Earth and then move on. It’s a very good culture. People were very environmentally sensitive in those days. I think we should continue this tradition.

Q: Why there are so many spiritual people socially not active and how does this secluded spirituality help the world?

Well, it is their choice. But don’t think secluded spirituality is not helping the world. They will be working on a vibrational level. They are at-least creating some positive vibrations, good intentions that would at some time fructify.

Q: Do you believe politics in India is becoming more holistic and spiritual? Do you foresee a new political revolution?

Revolution or change is a constant thing that happens. In India, of course, it is coming up in a very big way. People are more proactive and they are coming up with great enthusiasm. They have hope in the current change.
