What are Indian parenting styles and their need for upgradation

You are doing just fine if you learn new skills to upgrade your parenting style, keeping the best interests of your child in mind.

Minimalist Indian parenting can do wonders

Traditionally, it was good to be low on a child’s schedules and possessions (toys) and high on their self-exploration time, sharing and caring for others.

Parenting in extremes is damaging

Either deviation from your child’s playtime, study time and bedtime is considered misconduct, or there is no routine at all. Strike a balance for their holistic development.

Unlike an authoritarian parent, they need to apologize

When parents accept their mistakes, they earn even more respect from their children.

Overprotective parenting makes kids fragile

Those who always defend their kids from wrongdoings and save them from uneasy situations, push them to become arrogant and weak in adult life.

Prepare kids to be independent, not dependent

Pampered kids of permissive parents are unwilling to take responsibility. Offer realistic choices and encourage them to take up tasks not done before.

Parenting by extended family

Grandparents, uncles, aunts and elder cousins can be of great help in parenting as they can positively influence your children more than you.

Role of fathers in child’s progress

The unique father and child bond influences your child’s behavioral outcomes, cognitive abilities, educational achievements and career choices.

Choose traditional methods you trust

Potty training starts with young infants to keep them diaper-free by using timing, signals, cues and mothering intuition. It is a sign of a kid’s communication and parents' understanding.

Only puja-dua-prayer is not sufficient

Parents need to instill in their children that there is no replacement for hard work.

Involve your kids in daily chores

Create an environment where your child respects your authority but doesn’t feel suffocated by it, and helps you in your daily activities.

Share these skills with other parents who you feel are in need.
