Sri Sri receives Paraguay’s highest civilian award

Becomes the 3rd recipient in the Parliament’s 200-yr-history

Paraguay, Sept. 13: Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was honored with the highest civilian award, National Order of Merito de Comuneros on September 13. Gurudev is in distinguished company: the award has been bestowed on only two others in the 200-year history of the Paraguayan parliament.

The spiritual leader and founder of The Art of Living who was received by the President of Paraguay, Dr Federico Franco, also addressed the Paraguayan Senate. On his arrival in the capital city of Paraguay on September 12, Gurudev was received by a Paraguayan band amidst the cheer of a large group of Paraguayan people and followers, who had never received him in the country.

The South American country further conferred the Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Universidad Autonoma de Asuncion of Paraguay on September 13, in recognition of the humanitarian work done by The Art of Living.

Gurudev, who is on a two-day visit to Paraguay and is visiting the country for the first time, was also declared an illustrious citizen by the Paraguayan Municipality on September 12.

The Mayor, Dr Arnaldo Samaniego, and the Counsellor Martin Arevalo also declared Gurudev as an illustrious guest of the city of Asuncion and gave him the key to the city.

His arrival was immediately followed by a press conference with leading television news channels. Gurudev continued with a meeting of business leaders who have created the NGO, Juntos por la Educacion (Together for Education), headed by Edgard Insfran. He also addressed over 500 teachers in a conference titled, ‘Education with Inspiration.’ The day ended with a public conference.
