Bringing relief to those affected by Cyclone Gonu
Within hours of Cyclone Gonu hitting Muscat (in June 2007), The Art of Living mobilized relief material and reached aid to affected people. The Art of Living joined hands with the government agency, Oman Charitable Organization. By the evening of the first day after the cyclone, the volunteers had colleted blankets, sheets, pillows, water and foodstuffs and were distributing the same in the severely affected areas of Muscat. Significantly, The Art of Living was the first volunteer group to team up with the Oman Charitable Organization for the relief operations.
Relief material & trauma relief workshops
As the reports of utter devastation started to pour in, volunteers commenced a donation drive and within a few days, they were able to collect tinned food, milk powder, clothes, drinking water and many other items sorely needed in the affected areas. Donations were also made to the Oman Charitable Association, Dar Al Atta and the Omani Women's Association - organizations working towards rehabilitation of the people in the severely affected areas.
Soon The Art of Living began trauma relief programs in various parts of Oman. Free medical camps were also immediately alongside the trauma relief camps.
Raising more funds
The Art of Living organized ‘Sandy Triathlon’ in co-operation with the Oman Charitable Organisation and the Ministry of Sports at the Intercontinental Beach, Muscat on July 20, 2007 to raise funds for rehabilitating the victims in the Wilayat of Quriyat. The event helped raise around RO6,000.
