April 22, 2010

Stress. Fear. Anxiety. Sadness. Some say these arise from a mind that has overexerted itself. With today’s fast-paced lifestyle, a healthy body helps us keep up with tasks that require energy, but what about the tasks that require awareness and a sharp mind? How can we deal with the stresses that may arise from working just to ‘keep up’? “Take a deep breath” is not just a cliche used to help someone calm down anymore. It actually helps to bring the mind to a peaceful state. Meditation techniques always focus on a stillness achieved by focusing on the breath. Knowledge of the breath benefits us far beyond just the physical level. There is a direct correlation between the mind and the breath – by being aware of our breath we can learn to have a little more control of our emotions, or at the very least our reactions.
