Baking yeast is becoming a hard to find commodity currently. And the local grocery stores may not have your favorite bread either. Making this yummy, yeast-free naan bread is not only a quick and easy bread recipe to serve with dinner, you can also use naan to make a sandwich or a flatbread pizza!
This version of naan, is a remake of the traditional Indian bread so often served with your favorite curry dish. I used gluten-free flour and goat yogurt, but you can use all-purpose flour and any other kind of yogurt- even vegan yogurt will work. You will need either a rolling pin or jar to roll out the dough, and preferably a cast iron pan. If you are not using a cast iron pan, use extra care not to burn the naan.
Ingredients:
2 c flour
1 ¼ c yogurt (a little more if using gluten-free flour)
2 t baking powder (¼ t extra for gluten-free)
⅓ t salt
Sift the dry ingredients together.
Add yogurt and mix using either a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough comes together.
Transfer onto a dry, clean, floured surface and knead until dough forms a large ball.
Divide dough into 5-7 smaller balls.
Dust your rolling pin, or jar with flour.
Roll out each ball until about ¼” thick.
Heat your pan before adding the dough to cook.
Cook each side in a hot pan for a few minutes. Naan should be lightly browned.
Eat now. Or, reheat later.
