In this short video, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar discusses the need for balance between passion at work and dispassion when it’s time to rest:
In life you need 3 things: passion, dispassion and compassion. So when you’re working, you need passion. Be passionate when you work.
Passion and Dispassion
When you are done with the work, you need to have dispassion. In fact you need dispassion every day. Don’t think “I will have dispassion when I am 60, 70, or 80." It doesn’t work. Do you say that “I will work the whole month and I will sleep the next month?” You won’t exist!
It has to be a combination. Every day you work; the same night you sleep.
Letting go
In your work you have passion, but dispassion is what? Just letting everything go and sleeping. Sleep cannot happen to you if you don’t have dispassion. Every day, we’re dispassionate for some hours, 6 or 7 hours. That’s necessary.
Consciously being dispassionate is meditation.
