“With our increasing activities, space was proving to be a constraint. So in 1981, we approached the government for land to establish an ashram. We looked at a few potential sites, but none of them seemed suitable. Finally, one day, when we were driving with Guruji on the outskirts of Bangalore, he suddenly stopped the car by a small hillock. He got out and walked up a rocky, scrub-laden trail that led to a bunch of rounded boulders at the very top. He sat there for a little while, meditating…and when he opened his eyes, he announced, ‘This will be our ashram.’ The few people with him couldn’t believe his words! It was, after all, just a barren path of land with rocky soil, too hard to till; there was no water and it was too remote to even get electricity.” -Pitaji
