Since 2007, AOLF has embarked upon a community engagement journey in response to the growing need for practical solutions.
A course was offered in St. Theresa Point High School, Manitoba, in an effort to help youth deal with gang-related violence and alcohol and drug abuse. This action sparked a service movement to bring practical tools and peace to First Nations communities across Canada, including the Atikamekw and Pauingassi First Nations in Quebec, Gitanyow First Nation in British Columbia,Pangnirtung and Iqaluit, in Nunavut, Rouseau River First Nation in Manitoba and the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario.
Addressing a multitude of issues ranging from to high levels of youth suicide to gang violence, substance abuse and malnutrition to school dropout, and lack of access to basic infrastructure, AOLF has assisted in replacing cycles of abuse and trauma with opportunity, peace, stress relief and an overall improvement in the lives of countless First Nations community members.
