Summary of Bhagavad Gita
Chapter 7 - Part 2

(Below is a continuation of the post Summary of Bhagavad Gita at Bali - Day 1)

I am going to tell you that knowledge, knowing which, there is nothing else to be known. That is, the quest completes its journey.

Longing should never end. If longing ends then love also ends. That is why longing and love are infinite. But knowing ends when you are established in the knower. When the object of knowing and the knower come together, then there is no more knowing. The knowing completes.
Knowing is the distance between the subject and the object. Often people make God as the object of knowing. They try to know God. God is not an object to be known, it is the knower himself, and that is what science is, and that is what spirituality is.

The distinction between the object of knowing and the knower is removed in quantum physics. And this is what is exactly what he (Lord Krishna) meant. We saw how an object and the quality of an object are inseparable.
So Lord Krishna said, 'I am the fluidity in the fluid. I am the fragrance in the Earth element, I am the strength in the strong'.

7.11

'Balam balavatam ch-aham kama-raga-vivarjitam. Dharmaviruddho bhutesu kamo 'smi bharata-rsabha'

You know, in the field of sports, it is your natural strength that is honored. If you are doping to increase your performance, you do not get a price, you are kicked out of the games. Why do they do that? Because it is not per the natural law.

Krishna is being very careful here, because it is very delicate. He putting that discrimination in you by saying, 'See, if the strength in you is natural strength, then that is me. But the strength that you get from doping, that is not me. The strength that you get out of hatred, or out of fear, or out of anger, that is not me because that is not natural power, or divine power. It is not the power from the being, but a manipulated power and that is not what I am. But any power that you see naturally manifesting itself; any beauty that you see manifesting naturally, that is me'.

Dharmaviruddho bhutesu kamo 'smi bharata-rsabha:
This entire creation is motivated, sustained or produced by desire. It is desire that sustains this creation, isn't it? It is the desire to reproduce, the desire to survive, the desire to grow, which is quite natural.

If you don't have the desire to eat, and have no appetite, then there is no survival. If birds don't have the desire to fly, if butterflies don't have the desire to pollinate, then the creation will be dead. There is desire in every little action of creation, and creation is full of action. And there is action happening at many levels of this creation.

Desire is the source of creation, and it is the source of sustenance. And it is not against dharma, or the law of nature.

7.12

'Ye ch-aiva sattvika bhava rajasas tamasas cha ye. Matta eveti tan viddhi na tv-aham tesu te mayi'

The world is made up of three gunas: satvic, rajasic and tamasic and they all originate from me. They are all a part of me. I am not in them, they cannot control me but they have come from me'.

Someone who is addicted to drugs, they feel totally helpless because it is the drugs that control them. There is no self, there is no knowledge. They are not in touch with themselves. For such people, what do you generally say, 'Oh, he is not in his senses. He is not in touch with himself.

So Krishna says, 'I am more powerful than the three states of consciousness'.

7.13

'Tribhirgunamayairbhaavairebhihisarvamidam jagat. Mohitam naabhijaanaati maamebhyaha paramavyayam'

Though billion are on this planet, out of that only a few walk the path. And out of that few who walk the path, only a few get to know this.

See there are only a few scientists, there are only a few artists that excel. Like that there are only a few intelligent people on this planet. There are a few who can grasp this.

'Getting caught up in this (the three gunas), most people don't know me, because this me is eternal'. 
(We already discussed quite a lot about this. We are one with the cosmic energy).

7.14

'Daivi hy-esha guna-mayi mama maya duratyaya. Mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te'

This world is a sort of illusion, but don't blame it. A lot of people blame this world saying, 'Oh this is rubbish, this is no good'. The tendency of the mind is to say, 'Oh this is all maya, this is an illusion. This is no good. I have to get away from this and go into myself'.

This is when Krishna says, 'Wait a minute, what you consider as an illusion or ignorance, is also mine'. 
Then you take a big sigh of relief, 'Ah, okay'.

See, now the mind is relieved from fighting. The mind always wants to do something. In the process of doing it moves away from the being. So the master very skillfully connects you back with the being, easing you from doing, and bringing you back to just knowing. This is exactly what he is doing. The non-dual philosophy can only happen when the tendency of 'doing' rests in the being.

7.15

‘Na mam duskrtino mudhah prapadyante naradhamah. Mayayapahrta-jnana asuram bhavam asritah’

One who is engaged in evil activities, wrong actions, cruel actions, he cannot come to me or see me. Anyone who knows me cannot be cruel. And anybody who engaged in cruel activity cannot know me. It is as simple as that.
We are caught up in the field of events and we are not looking at the ultimate cause of everything that is happening. As long as you ponder on the effect, and not wonder about the cause, you remain ignorant. So the cause of all causes, is the being; the self and that is what is me. And the evil doers do not recognize me. They are deluded.
7.16

‘Chatur-vidha bhajante mam janah sukrtino 'rjuna. Arto jijnasur artharthi jnani cha bharata-rsabha’

There are 4 types of people who come to the spiritual path. Who start doing yoga and meditation, and start believing in something higher.
1. People who are miserable
2. People who are inquisitive: they do not stop till they go to the ultimate cause of existence
3. Artharthi: people who turn towards God for fulfillment of their desires

4. They are the wise ones; they know me

'All of these people have good merits, even the miserable ones have good merits. But the one who is wise, he is more dear to me because I am in him and he is in me. We are the same'

7.17

'Tesham jnani nitya-yukta eka-bhaktir vishishyate. Priyo hi jnanino 'tyartham aham sa cha mama priyah. Udarah sarva evaite jnani tv-atmaiva me matam’

The consciousness and the universe loves one who is wise and the wise loves the universe.
Seeing this whole universe as made up of just one thing is exactly what Vedanta is. This is called advaita siddhi, perfection of the knowledge of advaita, i.e., when your intention and the nature’s intention is one, not two. You become one with the nature to reflect nature and that is what a Guru is. 
Guru is like a mirror, he reflects you, he reflects the time, he reflects the space.
7.19

'Bahunam janmanam ante jnanavan mam prapadyate. Vasudevah sarvam iti sa mahatma su-durlabhah'

Achieving this is very difficult. After many births, someone achieves this state where they know that everything is Vasudeva; where he gets this idea that the whole universe is a part of me; everything is me, everything is divine and alive. This experience comes after many a births. Such a saint is very rare to find.
