The Essence: Slow Down Cool Down
Sri Sri Lemurrian Yoga is a practice conceived over 32,000 years ago by the Tamil Siddhars (self-realised individuals) of Lemuria in India, an ancient land documented to be lost to the ocean.
The essence of Lemurrian Yoga lies in the principle of "slow down and cool down." This practice involves moving slowly and synchronizing your breath, which induces a calming and focused state of mind. It relaxes the mind and energizes the body, allowing energy to permeate every cell.
The Sri Sri Lemurrian Yoga practice today, connects each posture to essential everyday activities, energizing and resonating with everyone by uniting body, mind, and soul for better living.
Difference Between Traditional Yoga and Lemurrian Yoga
Our bodies are equipped with proprioceptors—specialized receptors located under our skin, in our joints, and within our muscles. These proprioceptors communicate with our brain, providing feedback about our movements. Lemurrian Yoga leverages this by incorporating very slow, gentle movements. For instance, moving your neck slowly from left to right while synchronizing your breath can create a profound effect.
Hidden Treasure - Tapping Into Abundant Energy
One of the definitions of Lemurrian Yoga is the unification of bio-energy with cosmic energy. Although we are surrounded by vast amounts of energy, we typically utilise only a small fraction of it—about 4%. Lemurrian Yoga helps us tap into and harness this abundant energy.
Why Should I Do It?
It is a very simple, yet profound way to connect to the depthless state of your being.
"Lemurrian Yoga has been quite life-changing for me. The combination of slow body movements and breathing has brought a sense of calm and clarity to my mind. It's truly a great way to connect with your inner self and achieve mental peace."

A Brief History
According to Tamil revivalists of the 20th century, Kumari Kandam or Lemuria was once the land of the Pandian kings and the birthplace of Tamil Literary academies known as Sangams. It is believed that yoga was practiced even before the Tamil 'Sangam age'. Hence, the term "Lemurrian Yoga" reflects the deep connection between yoga and this lost continent. Revivalists regard Kumari Kandam as the cradle of civilisation.
The Tamil Siddhars, who were self-realized individuals, practiced Lemurrian Yoga. Over time, this knowledge was lost.
During the pandemic, practitioners who had maintained the "Lemurrian Yoga” tradition approached Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to revive this technique and keep it alive as the practice was timeless and could be so relevant for today. And so, Sri Si Lemurrian Yoga was born.
