Financial assistance & welfare for Subash

The Art of Living family in Singapore has been working towards helping a man meet his family needs, while fighting ill-health.

At present, Subash is at home, recuperating and looking for some alternative means to earn money. Hard times have fallen on him since 1992 September when he had to have a pacemaker implanted. Constant ill-health overthrew Subash’s chances of establishing a stable career. Finally, in July 2009, Subash was removed from his part-time job.

Later, in November 2009, Subash underwent a major surgery at the Singapore General Hospital, to remove a tumor that had spread over his neck, heart and lungs. Doctors from the National Cancer Center, Singapore, had advised and certified him unfit to work from December 7, 2009 for a minimum period of one year that could be extended.

Collecting assistance & counseling

The Art of Living in Singapore is currently collecting donations that will cover Subash’s treatment, medication and family expenses. Volunteers regularly visit him and spend time counseling the couple and playing with their son.

The Subashes have done what they can to find solutions for their troubles. To make ends meet, Subash’s wife has been working at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital from November 2009 and is under training. Her wages of $800 per month helps the family to pay the monthly rent of $300 (this excludes Town Council Charges).

The family lives in a 3-Room Housing and Development Board (HDB) Flat under the Rent and Purchase Scheme. They have accumulated arrears with HDB rental amounting $2,100 that includes the current month rent fee, services amounting $627.7, Singtel amounting $800 and personal debts. Their household uses the Pay-As-You-Use Scheme meter for electricity and they have no savings to meet their family expenses.

Education for their only son

Beginning 2009, Subash’s three-year-old son began pre-school at PCF Kindergarten Tanglin-Chainhill Branch. Despite the drawbacks of ill-health and mounting debts, Subash and his wife are determined to provide an education for their son, so that his future will be more secure than theirs.

There is much that needs to be done to help the Subashes. If you wish to donate, please contact Sashi at 96684532 or email adler92@singnet.com.sg
