KOCHI: While Chennai is going through one of the worst nightmares it has ever experienced, volunteers of the Art of Living stepped in yet again and have distributed over 500 tonne of relief materials in the rain-battered city so far.
The trucks deployed for the purpose contain relief materials collected from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Bengaluru, comprising basic needs like bread, biscuits, medicine and clothes (bed sheet, towel, mat, dhoti and sari). The relief materials also included water bottle, sanitary napkin, food and energy essentials like power banks, candles, torch and battery. “So far, the organisation has carried out relief activities in Kotturpuram, West Saidapet, T Nagar, West Mambalam, Thousand Lights, Manali, Ramapuram, Velacherry, Injambakkam, Kovilampakkam, Nanmangalam, Nandambakkam, Jafferkhanpet, Nesapakkam, Sidco Nagar, ICF Colonies, Avadi, Kilpauk, Greenways MRTS station and Porur,” stated an official release.
The next phase of relief work will cover the remaining areas, mainly Mudichur, Tambaram, Perungaluthur, Perumbakkam and Pallikaranai. Art of Living volunteers, along with local ward officials and councillors, have identified distress zones across the city and are coordinating the relief activities.
