A flood-prone state, Bihar witnessed one of the worst and most devastating floods in recent times, claiming over 300 lives, leaving at least 1.71 crore people across 19 district stranded, and causing extensive damage to property.
The Art of Living volunteers sprung into action and started distributing relief materials to the affected families. Most houses in affected villages were inundated and people gathered at nearby hillocks to save themselves. The team was the first to reach at several places to provide aid.
Relief efforts in full swing
So far, The Art of Living has provided relief to around 4000 people in Sarswan village, 1,400 people in Sundarpur Khap, 700 individuals in Deeh Mahuwahi village and hundreds of families in east and west Champaran. Over 20,000 food packets, comprising dry and cooked food have been distributed to families so far. Drinking water, clothes, medicines, and tarpaulins are also being provided to the affected.

The mayor of Gorakhpur, Anju Chaudhary and regional ministers, including Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Kanak Hari Prasad and Manoj Agrahari joined in with The Art of Living in its relief operations.
Along with relief work, The Art of Living is also conducting trauma relief programs in all the affected districts. The team plans to engage in post flood activities as well such as distribution of bleaching powder, chlorine tablets and general medicines to safeguard people from diseases that generally happen after the water recedes
