Bringing solar light
to border villages

As India celebrates 75 years of independence this year, The Art of Living plans to celebrate with more service initiatives. Solar electrification of 13 border villages across India and 75 schools in Arunachal Pradesh is one of the key service initiatives planned this year. This is a part of The Art of Living’s rural electrification project, Light A Home, which has over the years provided solar lights and electricity to 165,000+ people.

The project also empowers local youth with the knowledge required to operate, maintain, assemble and repair solar energy systems. With that, local income is also generated, and homes get a sustainable supply of solar energy.

Facilities provided at the time of the commissioning of the project were:

  • Solar power packs (Hybrid power station and DC power station) for individual houses
  • Street lights installed in 8 villages

Under the Light A Home project, the plan to electrify border villages began in 2020. For various reasons, like difficult terrain, border villages have lacked access to roads and electricity. In two years, the project has been able to reach solar electricity in 8 border villages in Arunachal Pradesh, namely Hapuk, Boghu, Tani, Sari, Khua, Home, Cholo, and Dogha. Also, 27 schools have been solar electrified in the villages of Wakro, Tezu, and Sunpura.
