Mein Apna Favourite Hoon

I have listed 10 things I like about me, but trust me, I am a surfer at the end of the day. There are as many downs as there are ups in my relationship with myself. But, it is important isn’t it, to tell myself why I like me.

As youngsters, I feel like we are often overtly or covertly, intentionally and oftentimes unintentionally forced to remain silent and only talk about ourselves when the occasion is right. My world around me moulds me like the hands of a potter. I reckon it isn’t always a pleasant experience for clay. I mean, spun and pressed into this shape or that. It is sometimes the same with me. Take for instance, grades. They are always telling me where I’ve erred. Now, I find that process useful to assess where I need to better myself, but being ok just the way I am, and growth are not mutually exclusive.

So, my friend, while you strive to become, remember sometimes to also just be. While listening to everyone one social media tell you who they think you are, likeable, likeable x 500, pause everyone else’s voice and listen to your own. Tell yourself why you like you. I’m sharing my list today. Share yours too.

Two-way outlook at situations:

I think the toughest thing is to understand what the other person is going through and to be able to comprehend the same and make use of it in any situation. I’m extremely grateful that I’m able to put my feet into someone else’ shoes (not literally!)

Fickle Minded(less):

Another aspect that I like about myself is not to be swayed by the tides of other’s opinions and at the same time accept the other person's point of view and not decline it completely

Taking quick and rational decisions:

I have grown up in a spiritual household and have always considered myself lucky to be introduced to the practices which have helped me make better decisions and also think fast.

People’s person:

Talking to people, understanding them has always been my forte. I’ve never found myself awkward or hesitant to converse.

Street-Smart:

People have this idea that being smart is enough to get by in this world. If you’ve met someone who is street-smart you’d take your words back. I feel like this is something that has helped get out of a lot of tricky situations.

Non-Violent:

Being a guy, society tells you that you must be strong and fight. I’m not the kind to do the same, if I can find a way to diffuse a situation without wasting any physical energy, I’m all for it!

Sensitive:

I’m grateful that I have the ability to care about people and also treat them

as I would like myself. This is again something I feel I have gotten from my             spiritual practices.

Making the best out of situations:

Another thing that I’ve noticed about myself is that I never seem to lose my cool or get disappointed when things don’t go a certain way, I’ve learned how to be content either ways.

Drawing a line:

I crave Pizzas and anything with cheese honestly but at the same time I know how sick they make me. The fact that I’m able to put a “Lakshman-Rekha” on my cravings and greed is something that I’m very proud of!

Humility:

This is something I’ve seen and learnt over time. Initially it seemed quite “uncool’ to admit to your mistakes but as I’ve grown up I’ve realised just how important it is to have some humility.

While life may seem at the top of the “Emotional Wavelength” by reading what I’ve just jotted down. There are several moments where life does drop down as well. And what fun would life be if it didn’t flow through these ups and downs?
